Religion has always had the highest position
in the Country of India. Since the earliest of
times in the history of India, kings and
rulers have been known to dedicate temples,
monuments, etc in memory of the Gods. The
existence of various religions in the Country
projects a deeps sense of religious tolerance
and brotherhood amongst the people, and this
attitude has gone a long way to shape the
status of India as a religiously motivated
Country.
The Country is swarming with religious places
and pilgrimages from one corner to the other.
Many of these temples and shrines have been
inscribed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO,
owing to their architectural genius and
platonic beauty. These pilgrimages are visited
by hundreds of devotees everyday because of
the reverence and devotion that they carry
towards their Gods.
Some of the most famous religious places for
the Hindus are Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kedarnath,
Badrinath, Gangotri, Vaishnodevi, and so on.
These are the most visited pilgrimages in
India, and people in huge numbers travel from
far away places, withstanding bad weather
conditions to pay their respects. Besides
these, there are other famous temples for
worship in and around the Country that are
very popular among devotees. Some of these
temples include the Sun Temple at Konark, the
Meenakshi Temple in Tamil Nadu, Tirupathi
