District Bageshwar is place of temples and rivers. Bgeshwar is situated on the bank of two famous rivers Gomati and Saryu. As the name suggest this place is blessed by Lord shiva.Here most of the temples belong to the different Avatar of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. Bagnath temples is the prominent temples in this region and hosts the biggest Uttarayani Mela in all over kumon.

Sites and Temples In Bageshwar

Bagnath Temple
The ancient Bagnath tample is Situated in the heart of the town. The temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva and it is flooded with devotees on the occasion of Shivratri. Bagnath is cluster of temples and some of them have very significance among the devotees such as the Bhairav temple, Dattatrey Maharaj, Ganga Mai temple, Hanuman temple, Durga temple, Kalika temple, Thingal Bhairav temple, Panchnam Junakhara and the Vaneswar temple.

Bagnath Temple

Chandika Temple
This beautiful temple dedicated to Goddess Chandika(an incarnation of goddess Durga)standson the top of a rock at a distance of about five hundred mts.from Bageshwar. Every Year sacrifice and woship is offered to the deity during the Navratras.

Gauri Udiyar
As the name suggest this place is a cave ,a large cave, measuring approxmatiely 20 x 95 sq. mts. is situated at a distance of 8 kms. from Bageswar. This place is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Shri Haru Temple
The Shri Haru temple, is situated at a distance of about 5 kms. from Bageswar. It is said that prayers for wish fulfilment here never go in vain if they are done with good faith. Every year a large fair is organised on the Vijaya Dashmi day following the Navratras.

Festivals in Bageshwar

Uttaryani Fair
Every year Uttaryani Fair is organised on the occasion of Makar Sankranti ( Janurary 14th). The fair attracts huge crowds of devotees, as this place believed to be as pious as a holy dip in the Ganges at Varanasi. The confluence of rivers Saryu, Gomti & Bhagirathi have been regarded as a sacred place of pilgrimage for ages. More than 50,000 devouts bathe in this holy confluence on the occassion of Uttarayani festival.

 

Uttaryani Fair

Kartik Purnima
This fair is held on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik.
Dussehera Fair Organised by the local people this 10 day long fair is held during the Dussehera.


Shivratri Fair
Held on the occassion of Shiva Chaturdashi. This fair attracts a huge crowd of devotees to offer prayers at the ancient Shiva temple situated in the midst of the town.

Ghughutee
Also known as Kale Kauwa festival this festivals is celebrated on the occasion of Uttaraini in the month of January .it is celebrated byt he whole Kumaoni people and on this day the sun enters into the tropic of Capricona Special cokeey are mand of flour which is kneaded with Gud and then forming a figure of a particular sign.,Ghuguti ,the puding is made and then strung into rosary.

Bikhauti
This old festival is celebrated in this region with great warmth .Kumaoni folks and songs are sung with the rythem of musical instrument called Hurka and people dance. Fishing and other programmes are held on this day.
 

Harela
The festival is celebrated during the month of July and Aug. on the occasion of Sharvan.This festival is held to celebratde the coming of corp seasion when seeds and small plant are spruted in the soil.

Excursion From Bageshwar

Baijnath
Situated at a distance of 26 kms from Bageshwar town on Bageshwar- Gwaldam motor road on the banks of river Gomti. Famous for the many temples with idols of Shiva & Parvati this place is a perfect excursion for one day .

Bharari Kapkot
Excursion to this spot takes one day .This place is nestled amongst mountains and it is about 25 Kms. from Bageshwar. This place is the first night halt for trekkers to the Pindari Glacier.

Kanda
This Picturesque place is must for nature lovers and it is about 25 kms. from Bageshwar on Bageshwar - Chaukori road. People visit the ancient Bhadrakali temple which is near to this place.

Pandusthal
It is said that Pandusthal was the Battle ground where Kauravas & Pandavas had fought. Still there exists a natural ground where the battle was fought. One can see an excellent view of the Himalayan mountain ranges.To reach Pandusthal, a bus service is available from Garur to Jakhera. From Jakhera, it is a 20 kms. trek through the mountains.

Trekking to The Pindari Glacier

The legendary Pindari glacier has a marvelous history .Pindari glacier's beauty offers a breathtaking sight, especially for the trekker who is in love with nature in all its pristine glory .Many a mountaineers and treakkers have described this place as a haven to their fellow brothers.The Pindari Glacier comes in the Kumaon Himalayan mountain range and has lured trekkers and mountaineers for a very long time. It is one of the most easily accessible of all the Himalayan glaciers. The Pindari Glacier is an unforgettable and an exhilarating experience.
