ANNAVARAM, which
is situated in
the East
Godavari
District, of
Andhra Pradesh,
is famous as the
seat of a
temple, to the
Lord Sri Veera
Venkata
Satyanarayana-
swami varu.
The name of the
Goddess is
Ananta- lakshmi
Satyavathi
Ammavaru.
The Southern
Railway and the
Grand Northern
Trunk Road can
reach Annavaram.
The nearest
railway station
is Annavaram,
which is two
miles from the
temple. The mail
does not stop at
Annavaram, and
the nearest mail
halting stations
are Tuni and
Peddapuram,
which are at a
distance of
eleven and
sixteen miles
respectively
from Annavaram.
There is a
regular bus
service to this
village. Buses
running from
Kakinada to Tuni,
Rajahmundry to
Tuni, and Yele-
swaram to Tuni,
pass through
Annavaram,
touching the
foot of the hill
where the temple
is situated.
The distance
from the foot of
the hill to the
temple is about
four furlongs.
From the foot of
the hill, to the
top o . f the
hill, there is a
proper path,
well laid out
with stone
steps.
The Devasthanam
has got its own
choul- tries for
the convenience
of the pilgrims.
There are also
two public
choultries in
the village
known as the
Kirlampudi
choultry and the
Vysya choultry
where pilgrims
can come and
stay.
There are also
some rooms upon
the hill, which
are used as
guestrooms. All
these places are
available for
lodging and
boarding.
The river Pampa
that is
considered a
sacred river is
running close to
the temple and
is a furlong
away from the
foot of the
hill.
Generally before
going to the
temple pilgrims
will have their
bath in the
river. There is
no Pushkarani or
temple tank in
the temple.
There is a
pathasala
attached to the
temple where
free boarding
and lodging is
provided to the
students.
Religious
discussions are
arranged during
Kalyanam days
and other
important
festival days,
at the place.
The popularity
and importance
of the temple
has been growing
by leaps and
bounds in recent
years, and
pilgrims have
come to consider
Annavaram as a
second Tirupati
in Andhra.
The income from
the Sannidhi
collections has
gone up from 1.2
lakes to nearly
Rs. 2.6 lakes
over a period of
Five years and
this itself are
an indication of
the popularity
of this temple.
There are many
important
festivals of
this temple like
the Kalyanam
festival in May,
Devi Navaratri
festival that
occurs in
September, the
Swayamvara
Vardhanti of
Sravana Sudd a
Ekadashi Day,
Srirama Kalyana,
the Kanakadurga
Yatra the Prabha
Utsavam, the
Teppa Utsavam
and the
Jalatoranam.
In addition to
the above Dharma
Sevalu and
Ekadashi Sevalu
are also
performed.
